Frequently Asked Questions

What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula provides non-medical physical, emotional, and educational support to families after the birth of a baby. My role is to help you recover, build confidence, care for your newborn, and adjust to life with your growing family.

Who do you support?

I support first time parents, experienced parents, single parents, adoptive families, and families welcoming multiples. Every family’s journey is different and my support is personalized to meet your needs.

When should I book?

The earlier, the better! Many families book during pregnancy to ensure availability. Especially if they are interested in postpartum packages. However, support can also begin after your baby arrives if space is available.

Do I have to be a first time parent?

Not at all! Every postpartum experience is different. Whether this your first or your fourth, every family deserves support.

What happens during a postpartum visit?

Each visit is tailored to your family’s needs. We may focus on newborn care, feeding support, helping you get some rest, emotional support, answering questions, light baby-related household tasks, or simply providing reassurance while you gain confidence.

What kind of household tasks do you help with?

My focus is always caring for you and your baby. Light household tasks may include: washing bottles or pump parts, baby laundry, tidying baby spaces, preparing simple snacks or meals, emptying the dishwasher, folding laundry, vacuuming and mopping floors. I do not provide deep cleaning or housekeeping services.

Do you help with breastfeeding?

Yes! I provide evidence-based breastfeeding education, latch and positioning support, pumping guidance, and bottle feeding education. If challenges extend beyond my scope of practice, I’ll help connect your with a trusted lactation consultant.

Do you only help with breastfeeding?

Not at all. I support all feeding journeys without judgement, including breastfeeding, formula feeding, combination feeding, and exclusive pumping.

Can siblings be home during visits?

Absolutely! Supporting families often means supporting older siblings too. While my primary focus is your newborn and postpartum recovery, I happily include siblings whenever appropriate.

What if my baby cries the whole visit?

That’s completely normal! Babies cry, cluster feed, and have fussy periods. My goal isn’t to have a “perfect” baby, it’s to help you feel supported through the reality of newborn life.

What areas do you serve?

I provide in-home postpartum doula support in Airdrie and surrounding communities, traveling up to approximately 45 minutes from my home. A $15 travel fee applies to locations more than 45km away.

Do you offer virtual support?

Yes! Virtual support is available for families who prefer guidance from home or live outside my service area.

What are your hours?

Currently I offer evening support, weekend support, and virtual support.

Do you require a minimum booking?

Yes. Daytime visits have a 3 hour minimum. Overnight visits have a 8 hour minimum.

How does payment work?

A deposit of 25% of your service cost is required to reserve your dates, the remaining balance is due before services begin. Payment plans may be available for select packages.

What if my baby comes early or late?

Don’t worry, birth is unpredictable! We’ll stay in communication and adjust your schedule whenever possible.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life with a newborn is unpredictable. I’ll always do my best to accommodate schedule changes. Full cancellation and rescheduling policies will be outlined in your service agreement.

I’m not sure which package is right for me.

That’s completely okay! Book a complimentary consultation, and we’ll talk about your family’s needs, answer your questions, and find the option that feels like the best fit.
