Let’s be real — downtime as a mom is rare. Between chasing kids, laundry piles, meal prep, and all the things, “me time” sometimes feels like a myth. But I’ve learned one thing. When I schedule self-care like it’s an appointment, I’m a better mom. I’m also a happier version of myself. My favorite downtime activity is reading hot & steamy hockey romance books.

My self-care routine usually starts with something simple. It might be a shower or bath. I might also enjoy a skincare moment or just take a breath. But it almost always ends the same way: me, curled up with a hockey romance book.

How I Got Into Reading Again

I didn’t always make time to read. Honestly, I hadn’t read for fun in years until my sister recommended a book to me. One chapter in, I was hooked. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Before I knew it, I was obsessed with romance books — especially hockey romances.

And now? Reading is my thing.

How I Use a Reading Tracker

Since I read so much now, I love using a reading tracker to keep track of the books I’ve read. I write down the:

It’s super satisfying to look back and see how many books I’ve gone through. It helps me remember which authors I want to read more from. If you’re like me, you love a good visual log. You can download your own free reading tracker.

My Top 5 Hockey Romance Books

I’m sharing the top 5 books I’ve read recently that I couldn’t put down. If you love romance (especially hockey romance), get ready to load up your TBR list.

1. Ice Breaker by Hannah Grace

This book started my love for hockey romances. It’s spicy, fast-paced, and the chemistry between Anastasia (a college figure skater) and Nate (the hockey team captain) is 🔥. A rink mishap forces their teams to share ice time… and let’s just say, they get closer than expected.

⭐️ 5 stars
📚 First in a series — but works great as a standalone!

2. The Wingman By Stephanie Archer

This book was fantastic. A hockey player and his long time best friend reconnect. Only this time, she isn’t dating one of his friends. This book was great from start to finish. It keep me interested the entire read.

⭐️ 5 stars
📚Part of a real good series

3. The Deal by Elle Kennedy

This book was chef’s kiss. Garrett Graham needs tutoring. Hannah Wells wants her football crush to notice her. They strike a deal — and sparks fly. It’s full of banter, steamy scenes, and emotional tension.

⭐️ 5 stars
📚 Also part of a series — and honestly, the whole thing is binge-worthy.

4. Behind the Net by Stephanie Archer

A hockey star and his new assistant… who turns out to be someone from his past 👀. The tension was so good, and it had all the emotions. First in a series, and each book is just as juicy.

⭐️ 5 stars

📚Also a binge-worthy series.

5. The Chase By Elle Kennedy

It took me a while to get into this book. It’s about a ditsy sorority girl who falls for a quiet, laid back hockey player. While the beginning is a little slow, it does pick up about halfway though. This book is part of a series or can be read as a standalone.

How Long It Takes Me to Finish a Book

Depending on life (and how spicy the book is), I usually finish a book in 3–7 days. When I’m into a story, I’ll find ways to sneak in chapters. I read during nap time, in the bath, or right before bed.

Reading is truly my escape. It’s a part of my self-care now, and I love that it’s something just for me.
