As a busy mom of two, I don’t naturally stay organized. As a mom with ADHD, it’s something I’ve had to build into my weekly routine. One of the biggest game-changers for me has been meal planning. Meal planning saves money, time, and sanity.
Every Sunday, while the kids nap and the house finally feels quiet, I sit down for my weekly reset. It’s my time to gather my thoughts. I review the upcoming week. I make sure we’re not flying by the seat of our pants (again 😅).
🗓 My Weekly Reset Ritual
Here’s what I do every Sunday afternoon:
- Fill out my daily planners for the week ahead
- Update our monthly calendar with appointments, school events, and family activities
- Meal plan for the week
- Order groceries online
- Do a quick pantry, fridge, and freezer check to use up what we already have
This routine has become a lifesaver. It helps me stay on track, avoid surprises, and (mostly) keep my house running smoothly.
🧾 How I Use My Meal Planner
I created a printable weekly meal planner that helps me organize:
- Breakfasts
- Lunches
- Dinners
- Snacks
There’s also a built-in grocery list section — which is a game-changer. As I fill in the meals, I jot down any ingredients we’re missing. This way, when I go to order our groceries, I’m not flipping back and forth between Pinterest recipes and my grocery app.
Instead of dragging two kids through the store, I place my grocery order online. It saves me time, sanity, and (bonus!) money — I stick to the list and avoid impulse purchases. Plus, I’ve noticed our grocery budget stays under control when I shop this way.
💡 Why It Works
Since starting this meal planning routine:
- I waste less food (no more forgotten leftovers!)
- I avoid buying things we already have (goodbye, third bottle of ketchup)
- I save money and stick to our monthly grocery budget (Meal planning saves money, try it for yourself)
- I feel less overwhelmed when it’s time to make dinner
I fill in the planner. Then, I post it on the fridge so everyone can see what’s for dinner. This way, there are no more “What’s for supper?” ten times a day 😄
